Windows 98

Microsoft Windows 98 is probably the first digital love of most of us. It was released in June 1998. This was the first operating system which was considered best for games. Windows 98, in game experience and support, was far superior to Windows ME, Windows 2000 and even Windows XP (initially).

Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) released on May 5, 1999. Second Edition got some new features and improvements.

Official support for Windows 98 ended in 2006.

Microsoft Windows 98 is only available in x86 (32-bit) version. Windows 98 x64 (64-bit) version never released and hence, does not exist.

How to install Windows 98 from USB/CD

Once you have created ultimate Windows 98 bootable USB using the Rufus of any other tool (as mentioned above), you are ready to install Windows 98 using this USB flash drive.

Make sure you have Windows 98 installation USB disc with you. Plug this flash drive into USB port of computer, then start (or restart) computer and follow these steps:

Press boot menu key (usually F9 for most computers) and select USB drive from the list.
Press any key on your keyboard when prompted.
Windows installation files will take a while to load and Windows 98 installer setup will start.
