V-Ray for SketchUp is a Chaos plugin. It does not replace SketchUp. You install SketchUp first, then the official V-Ray build for that year. “V-Ray SketchUp full” is not a second product. In addition, Chaos V-Ray is the renderer most SketchUp users choose for photorealistic images, accurate materials and realistic lighting.

There is no unlocked SketchUp edition.

• Install 64-bit SketchUp (2021–2026 for this Live build)
• Download V-Ray for SketchUp from Chaos
• Run as administrator
• Open SketchUp → V-Ray toolbar → sign in

A zip that patches sketchup folders or cgauth.dll is stolen licensing. 7.40 moves many seats to Chaos Cloud licensing. The installer can migrate you off a local licence server. You manage seats at my.chaos.com/licenses. Do not replace DLL files.

Solo / Premium / Enterprise still let you install V-Ray for Max, Maya, Rhino and the rest on the same plan. You download those hosts separately.

Your download should start on Chaos’s site

If nothing saves, you picked Rhino or Enscape by mistake. The SketchUp installer is its own file.

What to do next

1. Quit SketchUp.
2. Sign in at my.chaos.com.
3. Download V-Ray 7 for SketchUp, official Windows x64.
4. Right-click → Run as administrator.
5. Tick the SketchUp year you actually have.
6. Open SketchUp. Look for the V-Ray toolbar.

Typical folder: C:\Users\You\Downloads.
Plugin files land under SketchUp’s Plugins path and Chaos Program Files.

Cosmos materials download after you sign in. A “complete asset library” torrent is not the product.

Windows may warn you. Check the publisher.

• Publisher should read Chaos.
• SmartScreen can appear on a new installer. Use More info only if the signature matches.
• Do not turn off Defender to “activate.”
• Optional: the installer can disable AI features (Veras) if your office policy requires it.

Need the old local licence server instead of Cloud licensing? Use Change V-Ray license settings after install. Do not hex-edit config files.

Pick the right Windows file

Chaos’s current requirements list SketchUp 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026. SketchUp 2020 and earlier need an older V-Ray from your account, not a patched 7.40. V-Ray 6 was the last line that imported ancient V-Ray 2 SketchUp materials.

Chaos V-Ray Trial vs Paid

Trial is full-featured and includes Chaos support for that window. Education seats exist through Chaos education rules. Prices for Solo / Premium live on chaos.com. SketchUp Go / Free web is not a V-Ray host.

Will Chaos V-Ray Run on This PC?

Official Windows floor for V-Ray for SketchUp:

• OS: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
• SketchUp: 64-bit 2021–2026
• CPU: Intel/AMD with AVX2
• RAM: 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended (heavy models want more)
• Disk: 2 GB minimum, 12 GB recommended with Cosmos content
• GPU (optional but useful): NVIDIA Maxwell or later for CUDA/RTX; Vision wants DirectX 11/12 + Shader Model 5.0
• Network: IPv4 only for distributed rendering

SketchUp itself is single-thread hungry in the viewport. V-Ray production frames want cores and, for GPU mode, VRAM. A 4 GB laptop GPU will open the plugin and then crawl.

Already installed? Install 7.40.02 over the previous 7.x. Sign in again if Cloud licensing asks.

Install, first run, and the toolbar

First run

1. Open a small SketchUp model.
2. Extensions → V-Ray, or the V-Ray toolbar.
3. Sign in.
4. Render a box with a Cosmos material before a 2 GB warehouse dump.
5. Optional: Vantage Live Link if you also have Chaos Vantage.

Uninstall: Windows Settings → Apps → V-Ray for SketchUp. Close SketchUp first.

If it did not work

• No V-Ray menu — 32-bit SketchUp, or you installed for 2025 while running 2026.
• Toolbar empty after Studio install — enable the extension in Extension Manager.
• CUDA error — old NVIDIA driver.
• “Full” installer is 80 MB with a keygen — leave.

Questions before you trust the installer

Is this the official file?
Yes if it came from chaos.com or my.chaos.com and the publisher is Chaos.

Do I need V-Ray for 3ds Max too?
Only if you work in Max. The SketchUp installer does not include Max.

Is V-Ray free with SketchUp?
No. Studio may include a path to install it. You still need a valid Chaos / Studio entitlement.

SketchUp web / iPad?
Not this plugin. Desktop SketchUp on Windows or Mac.

Safe?
Official installer plus Chaos sign-in. The usual risk is fake “SketchUp 2026 + V-Ray full” bundles.

Install from Chaos. Tick your SketchUp year. Sign in. Render. Pay or use the seat if you keep it past 30 days.
