FIX: Desktop is unavailable if the location is on this PC

The desktop is unavailable error occurs because the system might have been crashed during the update of Windows which may have lead to the software not being updated successfully because of damaged or corrupted files.

Which leads to this error it could be on the hard drive or on the network.

Follow the below mentioned methods to troubleshoot the error but before that try checking that if the disk is inserted properly and you’re connected to your network then restart the PC and check if the error is fixed. If the error is still present then go for the methods mentioned below to fix the error.

Method 1 [ Conduct full system shutdown]:
Follow the following steps:
• Click start menu
• Then click the power button
• Press and hold the Shift key then click on the shutdown button.
• Switch on computer again.
Method 2 [ Uninstall the latest update using Advanced Menu]:
• Click on start then select the power button
• Now press and hold the Shift key and press restart
• A recovery screen may appear so click on trouble shoot


• Then click on advanced settings

• Next press uninstall updates


• And then in uninstall updates select uninstall latest quality update


• Finally, click done
Method 3[ Create missing desktop file using Advanced Startup Menu]:
• Click on start then select the power button
• Now press and hold the Shift key and press restart
• A recovery screen may appear so click on trouble shoot
• Then click on advanced settings
• Next press command prompt
• After the PC restarts switch to admin account and type your password
• Then in command prompt type in the command (dir C).
• Then type in the below mentioned command
mdX:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Desktop ( X stands for the drive name type in the drive name for which you want to create the folder)
• Nor close the command prompt window and click continue to boot to Windows 10.
