How to fix the explorer freeze error?

Edit your registry:

  • Head over to the start menu and type Regedit, then press Enter.
  • The Registry Editor window will appear on your screen. 
  • On the left panel, choose the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder.
  • Next, navigate to and select the CLSID folder.
  • Now head over to the folder:[8E74D236-7F35-4720-B138-1FED0B85EA75]
  • Right-click on the ShellFolder
  • Choose the Permissions feature from the menu and click on the Advanced button.
  • Now choose the Owner tab.
  • Click on the Change button present under the Owner tab.
  • Select the box next to Replace for the sub-containers and objects
  • Select the box next to Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this subject and press OK
  • In the list of usernames, select your username and head over to Permissions for Users.
  • Select the Allow box on the Full Control option and click OK
  • Double click on the Attributes icon in the DWORD window
  • Set Value Data to 0 and click Ok
  • Close the Registry Editor window and restart your PC

Perform an SFC scan:

  • Press Windows key + X key
  • The command prompt window will open click on the run an administrator.
  • Now type in the following command.

sfc/scannow

  • Then press Enter
  • Let the command run, and after it, restart your computer

Reset the computer:

  • Head over to settings
  • Go to Windows Update and choose Recovery
  • Now select the option Reset this PC
  • Next, click on Get Started and follow the instructions given on the screen
