FIX: Windows Update error 0x80072efd in Windows 10

Windows update process sometimes fails, displaying a specific error code for easier identification.

One such annoying error affects Windows 10 (or more) is a Windows Update error code 0x80072EFD.
We have already reported the same problem before, more specifically with the Windows Store App Update: 0x8007064a, 0 × 80,246,007, 80,248,014 Error 0 ×.

One user said the following, blaming these problems on proxy settings.
Can’t use windows update causes 80072efd. From what I have found, the problem is with the network proxy, but I tried to reset IE and proxy even without the automatic detection, also use the netsh command to reset proxy but still continuing problems.

But every time I run a local proxy like Psiphon, I can use windows update (proxies are not required for download only for updates).
Fortunately for those having this problem, Microsoft has officially recognized this problem.

So here are the steps you need to take to fix this issue.

  • Network driver updates
  • Run the Network troubleshooter
  • Fix Connection Problems

1. Update network drivers

  • Go to Search, type device mgr, and open the Device Manager.
  • Find your router under Network Adapters.

  • Right-click your network adapter, and go to the Update driver …
  • Wait for the process to end, and follow the instructions on the screen.
  • Resurrect your computer.

 

Any time you suspect something is wrong with your internet connection, the first thing you try to update your network driver.

2. Run the Network troubleshooter

  • Go to the settings.
  • Head to Update & Security> Problem

  • Search Windows Update, and click the Run troubleshooter
  • Follow further instructions on the screen.
  • Resurrect your computer.

Microsoft’s troubleshooting tool is very useful when dealing with various system-related issues, including the problem of Windows Update.

3. Fix connection issues

Now, let investigate if something wrong with your internet connection. The easiest way to check this is to, well, connected to the Internet.
