Sometimes it is necessary to format a hard drive, SSD, memory card, or USB stick in Windows. In this way, you can delete garbage data and restore your storage medium to its full potential. However, the error message that your hard drive cannot be formatted prevents formatting from working properly in some situations.
If your hard drive cannot be formatted then how do you reject it?
The root of the problem cannot be clearly identified at first. Therefore, you need to check the scenarios for an unusable format. If you want to do this, you can do different tests consistently.
- First, check the hard disk drive and personal computer connection. If the hard drive is built into the housing, there is no problem with the connection. For example, a faulty cable prevents the other hard drive from connecting properly.
- Pressing the [Windows] and [R] key combination opens the Run dialog. You can then definitely open your disk drive by entering the code “Discmgmt.msc”.
- A list of associated data carriers has been opened. It is easy to identify the stick you need to format and select based on the qualification factor information.
- In the next step, enter the brand-new volume name and the required file software as well. For hard drives, this is usually NTFS. After re-verification, formatting begins.
