There is no extra unlocked setup.

A “Lightroom 15 pre-activated” folder plus an amtlib patch is stolen licensing. Adobe apps check the account. Grey-market keys are often recycled seats.

If nothing installs, you opened Photoshop or a “Lightroom 2026” file host.

What to do next

1. Install Creative Cloud Desktop if it is missing.
2. Sign in with your Adobe ID.
3. Install Lightroom Classic and/or Lightroom.
4. Open the app and sign in again if asked.
5. Point Classic at a catalog on a local SSD — not only a USB stick.

Typical folder: Creative Cloud cache under your profile.
Classic path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Lightroom Classic.

Admins can use a named-user package. Do not take a 2 GB “full ISO” from a forum.

Windows may warn you. Check the publisher.

• Publisher should read Adobe.
• SmartScreen can appear on a new CC setup. Use More info only if the signature is Adobe.
• Do not turn off Defender to “activate.”
• Do not replace licensing DLLs.

Help → About in Classic should show 15.5 (or the latest 15.x CC offers). Adobe supports 15.x (current) and 14.x (prior). Security fixes go to the current version. Perpetual Lightroom 6 is unsupported.

Cloud Lightroom and Classic do not share one catalog. Plan which app owns the library before you import 80,000 raws twice.

Trial and subscription

Both apps are Creative Cloud. Adobe sells a Lightroom plan (both apps + cloud storage) and a Photography plan (adds Photoshop). A trial is the official look. Cancel in account.adobe.com if you only wanted the trial.

Education seats follow Adobe Education rules. A $20 “Classic 2026 lifetime” key is not Adobe.

Will it run on this PC?

Lightroom Classic 15.x official Windows floor: Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 23H2+, 64-bit Intel/AMD (ARM via emulation on Classic), 8 GB RAM (16 GB+ recommended), 8 GB to install, AVX2 called out for recommended CPUs. Use an SSD for catalog and previews.

Cloud Lightroom has its own requirements page and is the better fit on some Windows ARM devices. If adobe.com/download/lightroom says the OS is unsupported, install Classic instead or update Windows.

Already installed? Use Creative Cloud → Updates. You do not download a second “2026 full.”

Install, first catalog, and sign-in

First run (Classic)

1. Open Lightroom Classic.
2. Sign in with the same Adobe ID.
3. Create a catalog on an internal SSD.
4. Import a small folder — not the whole archive on day one.
5. Check Help → About.

First run (cloud Lightroom)

1. Open Lightroom.
2. Sign in.
3. Add photos to the cloud library or local originals as the app allows.
4. Confirm storage quota on the plan.

Uninstall: Creative Cloud → Uninstall. Back up the .lrcat and preview folders first.

If it did not work

• App missing in CC — this ID has Photoshop only, or no photo plan.
• Activation error — fake key or too many machines.
• Installer is 80 MB named Classic_Unlocked — leave.
• Catalog on Dropbox only — move it local; sync is not a backup strategy.
