CCEnhancer Review

CCEnhancer is a small piece of application that adds 1000+ additional programs support to CCleaner, the popular system clean-up application to delete temporary and junk files to free up more disk space.

CCEnhancer can be called CCleaner add-on. It actually adds winapp2.ini to add more programs support.

The application itself doesn’t affect the system. It actually downloads winapp2.ini file to computer and places it to CCleaner’s main folder. Actually, you don’t need to bother about this .ini file. All you have to do is download the application and run it. Then press ‘Download Latest’ button and it will automatically download the latest file containing most recent definitions and rules for CCleaner.

[box type=”warning”] The installation instructions recommend to run the program as administrator. But I have tried it running by simply double click and it worked properly. If you face problems, right click on the file, and select ‘Run as administrator’ from the menu.[/box]

[box type=”info”] CCEnhancer adds a long list of more than 1000 programs. After integrating CCEnhancer, CCleaner can take long time to load and get ready than it used before. This loading time depends on computer speed and performance. Generally, it takes more than 10 seconds while the program loads the rules from .ini file. You can consider it a small cost in form of wait, to get more free disk space. It may happen only on first time run or sometimes every time.[/box]

If you are interested in manual installation, you can download winapp2.ini file from this link and place it in CCleaner’s main folder; usually the default path is:

Sometimes, the application cannot be installed successfully due to firewall or any other reason. If such failure happens, you can use this manual method of downloading and placing .ini file to the folder mentioned above.

Close and restart CCleaner (if it is already running) and you will be able to remove more junk files to have more free disk space. You can check the additional programs in the ‘Programs’ tab, next to ‘Windows’ tab in CCleaner.

[box type=”info”] CCEnhancer will not work until you close and restart the CCleaner. Check if it is running in system tray and close it. Either you install it or download .ini file and place it manually, a program restart is needed. It’s recommended to close CCleaner first and then install CCEnhancer.[/box]

If you want to have a look on pre-defined default rules and definitions, just go to CCleaner’s main folder and find winapp2.ini file. Open it with ‘NotePad’ or any text editor. You’ll see a huge list of programs list. You can add custom rules of your own too. After defining your custom rules, save and exit the file and restart CCleaner. Navigate through the programs list to find if your defined location is added in the list.

[box type=”info”] CCEnhancer added entries can be distinguished easily. Just navigate through the ‘Programs’ tab in CCleaner, look at the programs list. The programs that are added with enhancer are marked with asterisks (*). While the default/original listed programs have no asterisk signs.[/box]

Here is an experiment. First, CCleaner analyze was performed without any enhancer. It cleaned up 238 MB.

Then, with CCEnhancer, I checked almost all checkboxes of available programs in the list, which is quite silly, but it was a test to see the margin of difference. It cleaned up 396 MB disk free of junk files.

You need not to select all programs in the list as it can delete some useful files. However, you can make a choice of your installed programs to clean up their junk data from the disk.

Be careful while editing the winapp2.ini file. Although almost no chances, but any serious mistake can cause your valuable data loss. You are recommended not to play with this file until you are confident enough with your knowledge about adding rules to this file. Don’t afraid about this file, but safety should be first priority.

CCEnhancer does not interfere your computer either installing files to system folders or modifying registry in Windows Registry. It is a portable file and doesn’t perform anything special more than downloading, placing and editing winapp2.ini file. It has some options, functions and advanced settings. You can add portable location if you have a portable version of CCleaner on your computer so that it can place the .ini file to your defined portable CCleaner folder.

If you want to delete CCEnhancer, go to CCleaner’s folder, find and delete winapp2.ini file. If you don’t want to delete it permanently this file and want to use it again in the near future, you can move/cut file and paste it to some other folder of your choice. You can copy the file to back whenever you want to add enhancement to CCleaner.
