Windows 10 (version 1709) – Oct, 2017 – Fall Creators Update
Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update, Redstone 3) arrived on 17 October 2017. It followed version 1703 and continued Microsoft’s focus on Fluent Design, mixed reality, and better app experiences.

This release is mainly remembered for introducing My People, expanding Fluent Design, and improving Windows Mixed Reality support, along with a number of smaller refinements across the system.
Notable changes in 1709
- My People – pin contacts to the taskbar
- Expanded Fluent Design (acrylic, reveal, etc.)
- Improved Windows Mixed Reality experience
- OneDrive Files On-Demand
- Better Story Remix tools in the Photos app
- Additional options in Settings and Edge
- Gaming-related improvements
Like most early feature updates, 1709 still had some rough edges — occasional Edge performance issues and incomplete Settings options were among the more common complaints at the time.

These are the original Fall Creators Update images. If you need a Windows 10 installation that stayed in support the longest, use the final release: version 22H2.
Installing the ISO
Create a bootable USB with Rufus or the Media Creation Tool, boot from it, and choose either an upgrade or a clean install. After Windows finishes setting up, run Windows Update to install any remaining cumulative updates that were still published for 1709.
Mounting the ISO and running setup.exe also works for an in-place upgrade.
Notes
- Windows 10 reached end of support on 14 October 2025. Version 1709 stopped receiving regular updates years earlier.
- A genuine product key matching the edition is required for activation.
- For any new installation today, prefer 22H2.
