A “permanent activated 2013” folder is not the product. KMS and phone-activation tools are not how retail Office works. Grey-market keys are often stolen volume licences.

32-bit was the default in 2013 because of add-ins. 64-bit needed 64-bit Windows. Do not mix 32-bit and 64-bit Office on one PC.

Microsoft is explicit: the suite keeps working, and you take the security risk. There are no extended security updates for Office 2013. Files still open in Office 2024 and Microsoft 365. You do not need 2013 to keep .docx / .xlsx / .pptx.

Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 are all out of Microsoft support now. Office 2013 on those systems is two expired stacks. A 2013 install on Windows 11 may launch; it is still an unpatched 2013 product. Do not put it on a machine that handles mail or money.

Already installed? There is no new security train. File → Account → Update Options will not make 2013 current.

1. Open Word.
2. Sign in if asked.
3. Check File → Account.
4. Save a test .docx.

Retail activation expected the internet at least once.

Uninstall: Settings → Apps, or Microsoft’s uninstall article. Close Outlook first. A current Microsoft 365 install and Office 2013 on the same PC usually fight — remove one before you install the other.

• No Install button — this account never redeemed perpetual 2013, or you are on a 365 subscription.
• Product unlicensed — key used up or invalid.
• “Another copy of Office” — leftover 365 / 2021 / 2019 / 2016.
• You bought a $8 “2013 Pro Plus” key in 2026 — treat it as suspect.

Why anyone still reinstalls 2013

• They already own it and need Word on a spare machine
• An old add-in that never moved on
• Pay-once habit

What you do not get: patches, Microsoft help, Copilot, extra devices, or a supported connection to current Microsoft 365 services.
